Short answer. The full ticket for Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome costs 18 euros since 1 July 2026, and entry is free on the first Sunday of every month, without booking online. The official ticket you buy online is in your name: you need an original ID document at the entrance, and if the details do not match you are refused entry with no refund. We read the museum’s pages and the Ministry of Culture’s page on 24 October 2026. Prices and rules can change, so check them before you pay.

The museum’s website sends buyers to the Musei Italiani platform, and its pages name CoopCulture for bookings and the call centre. The pages we read have no notice about resellers. We are not the museum.
How much does the official ticket cost?
| Ticket | Price |
|---|---|
| Full price, since 1 July 2026 | 18 euros |
| EU citizens aged 18 to 25 | 2 euros |
| Under 18s and other cases set by law | Free |
| First Sunday of the month | Free, no online booking |
| “Lunedì di Castello”, Monday 2 November and 7 December 2026 | 5 euros, only on site |
| Radio guide for groups, per person | 2 euros |
The museum publishes notices that change the ticket price on certain event days, such as rugby matches or charity races, without giving the amounts in the text. We could not read whether booking online adds a fee, because the sales platforms did not load for us. So treat 18 euros as the base price and check the final amount where you buy.
The reduced ticket runs from the age of 18 up to and including the day of the 25th birthday. The museum extends it to citizens of non-EU states where reciprocity applies. The free categories follow the Ministry of Culture’s list of concessions, which includes under-18s, EU licensed tour guides, ICOM members, teachers and students of some university courses and of fine-arts academies, disabled visitors with one companion, and journalists. Carry proof of your right.
Is the ticket in my name?
Yes, for the official ticket. According to the museum, it is in the visitor’s name, and each visitor enters their own data when buying. At the entrance you show the ticket and an original ID document. If the data do not match the document, entry is refused and nothing is refunded.
One change of name is allowed for tickets bought online or through the call centre, by midnight of the day before the visit. We could not read how the change is made on the sales platform, so ask CoopCulture on +39 06 399 671 00 (Monday to Friday 9:00 to 18:00, Saturday 9:00 to 14:00). The free tickets of the free days are different: they are collected at the desk and carry no name.
When is entry free?
- First Sunday of the month. There is no online booking. Everybody joins one queue at the desk to collect a free ticket, and the museum may reshape the route according to the crowds. The next ones, calculated by us, are Sunday 1 November and Sunday 6 December 2026, and Sunday 3 January 2027.
- Wednesday 4 November 2026. A free opening from 9:00 to 19:30, with no booking and free tickets collected on site, according to the Ministry of Culture’s event page. The last entry is not stated.
- Other days. We could not confirm other free days for this museum, such as 25 April or 2 June.
What are the “Lunedì di Castello”?
The museum says that from 3 August 2026, and for the rest of 2026, it opens on the first Monday of each month, normally a closing day, from 14:00 to 20:00, with the last entry at 19:00. The special ticket is 5 euros, sold only on site, with no booking, and groups are not admitted. The museum does not list the dates. Counting from its rule, the ones left are Monday 2 November and Monday 7 December 2026 (our calculation). Nothing has been announced for 2027. The decree published by the museum also lists reductions for young people up to 25 in a form we could not interpret, so ask at the desk.
Where do I buy official tickets?
The museum points to one sales platform and to CoopCulture. The sales platform is linked on our tickets page, next to the museum’s own page.
- Online. The Musei Italiani platform and app, as indicated by the museum. On its page, tickets for October, November and December 2026 are on sale; we found nothing about sales from January 2027.
- By phone. The CoopCulture call centre, +39 06 399 671 00.
- On site. There is a ticket office, now in a temporary structure outside the castle while works go on. The free tickets and the “Lunedì di Castello” tickets are sold or given only there.
Booking is optional according to the Ministry of Culture’s page, but the museum recommends it every day, especially on holidays and weekends. We found no waiting list, no rule on sold-out days and no entry time slot written on the museum’s pages.
Can I change or cancel a ticket?
The museum’s pages say only two things: one change of name is allowed, and nothing is refunded when the data do not match the ID. We could not read the refund and date-change rules of the sellers. If your plans might change, read the conditions before you pay.
Your castle ticket also includes two house-museums, for now
The museum says the castle ticket gives one free entry to each of two house-museums of the same institute, the Hendrik Christian Andersen museum and the Boncompagni Ludovisi museum, on the same day or in the following two days. It calls this experimental and promotional until 31 December 2026, so after that date it is not confirmed.
What is the Passetto di Borgo, and is it in the ticket?
The Passetto is the raised, fortified corridor along the old walls that links the Vatican to the castle. It is visited only on guided tours sold apart: Friday to Sunday from 9:00 to 13:00, with entry to the castle included (not on the first Sunday of the month), on Saturday evening from 19:00 to 23:00, and on easier-access visits on the second and fourth Sunday at 10:45 and 12:15, which start at the Torre del Mascherino and do not enter the castle. The ordinary ticket is not described as including it. The price and length of the tours are not confirmed by the official pages we could read. For the story of the corridor, read the history of the castle.
Online offers next to the official price
Our partner Tiqets, a third party, sells tickets and tours for Castel Sant’Angelo. They are different products from the official ticket. The prices are the ones we saw on 24 October 2026.
| Option | Official reference | Tiqets price | What Tiqets says it includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entry with audio guide app | Full ticket, 18 euros | 22 euros | Entry; a downloadable audio guide app in Chinese, English, French, German, Italian and Spanish; a ticket on your smartphone; access to permanent and temporary exhibitions |
| Entry with live guided tour | Full ticket, 18 euros | 49 euros | Entry; a live guided tour listed at 2 hours; headset; arrival 15 minutes early |
| Castle and Passetto di Borgo | Full ticket, 18 euros; the Passetto’s price is not confirmed | 49 euros | Entry to both; assistance at the meeting point; guided tour and audio guide not included |
| Passetto guided tour plus castle entry | Full ticket, 18 euros; the Passetto’s price is not confirmed | 59 euros | A guided tour of the Passetto with live guides in English and Italian; headset; entry to the castle without a guide |
| Castle and Pantheon | Full ticket, 18 euros; the Pantheon’s ticket price was not read | 45 euros | Entry to both; a multimedia video on ancient Rome; no guide or audio guide |
What these listings add to the entry is a ticket on your phone and, depending on the product, an audio guide, a guide or the Passetto. The Tiqets page for the audio guide ticket, which we read on 24 October 2026, says it is not refundable or changeable and that the entry time is given for the nearest slot available and may vary by up to 45 minutes. None of the products in the table is cancellable, according to Tiqets. The data we read do not say whether the Tiqets ticket carries the visitor’s name. The museum’s rule is that the ticket must match the ID document, so bring an original ID document, read the instructions you receive after buying, and remember that the museum’s ID rule is written for its own sales channels. The museum does not mention any other seller, and we could not confirm whether it has an agreement with our partner. Our tickets page shows the options with live prices.
Which option should I choose?
If you want to pay the official price, buy on the channel the museum indicates and check the final amount there. A partner product makes sense if you want an audio guide in an app, a guide, the Passetto or the Pantheon bundled with the entry, and you accept its conditions. Whichever you pick, bring an original ID document, and check the opening hours for the closing days and for the Monday openings.
